What about EGW notifications ?
I don’t know what you mean.
I never had a session lost due to time out (provided the popup is clicked) (my
users are in local network only, though, so I set notifications to be checked
every 1 minute).
Popup notifications? I must not have that enabled as I’ve never seen that
before. How do I turn that on? And what would be the consequences of
enabling that, both positive and negative, over and above the issue we are
discussing here?
Well,
you need Notifications app installed and
(on egw 1.8 !) your-server/egroupware/index.php?menuaction=admin.uiconfig.index&appname=notifications
check that it’s enabled,
set poll interval
(on egw14.1), go to Admin application, Applications, Notifications
set poll interval
Possible downside ? Every logged-in operator/user that has right to notification app and has it
enabled in preferences, will poll the server every minute / two / five if set so,
therefore you will have more traffic to your webserver and database. May be not desired on mobile data plans if used.
Positive is that it doesn’t have to be popups, notifications (at least in 1.8) can be reduced to just an icon flashing you,
because if you set it to high / popup on (at least on 1.8) it will display you a dialog box and stall the poll.
But if just a flashy icon, it will continue to poll the server even if you don’t click it, and your
logged-on session never times out. At least so I had it here
