Hi everybody
[Please CC me in replies, I am not yet subscribed to this list.]
[German replies are also welcome, but probably not to the list.]
In addition to SyncML support not working with my Nokia N95 (Nokia problems
seem to have been reported many times in the past few months), GroupDAV
support also seems a bit odd in the 1.4 current snapshot. I update
semi-regularly from the 1.4 snapshot tar.gz, so my installation should be
fairly up-to-date.
Kontact is able to access both contacts and calendar items and synchronise
two-way with Egroupware using icalsrv. However:
- All non-ascii characters (like Umlauts or accents) go missing on the
Kontact side, while they are correct on Egroupware and when accessing via
SyncML. I understand this has already been reported and is a known issue. As
required for SyncML, mbstring.func_overload is set to 0 for rpc.php. Can this
be a problem, given that I chose utf8 for the database tables? Does anybody
currently use Kontact with icalsrv and non-ascii characters? Is anybody
currently debugging this issue?
- Offline support is somewhat broken. That is, Kontact caches the entries
locally and uploads changes via GroupDAV as I told it to. However, on every
startup (and lost server connection), it tries to re-download the whole list
and the cached local entries are not used. Disconnected operation is
therefore not really possible (and this was one of the major reasons for
switching to Egroupware in the first place, due to GroupDAV and potentially
future CalDAV support). Is this a Kontact problem, or is it possible that
icalsrv does something wrong that invalidates local caches?
SyncML works fairly well with syncevolution as a client, but not with Nokia
phones. Right now, I use syncevolution two-way between Egroupware and
ScheduleWorld, and the phone against ScheduleWorld. Via 2 hops, I thus get
contacts and calendar items synchronised two-way with my phone. It is clear
that this situation is not ideal and that I’d like to use SyncML directly
with Egroupware.
Is anybody currently working on fixing SyncML support for Nokia phones in the
1.4 branch? We may even be able to offer a (small) bounty for fixing this.
We are currently evaluating different systems not only for our own use, but to
recommend them to potential clients. The first system to supports SyncML well
and with stable support for disconnected Linux clients (Kontact first,
potentially also Evolution) will win
Just as a side note, I used Kolab for quite some time due to its excellent
disconnected support for Kontact (never had a single issue with synchronising
contacts and calendar items with Kontact’s fabulous disconnected IMAP mode).
But SyncML support in Horde, especially with Kolab as a backend, is also
broken at the moment.
best regards,
Rene
