You can already create a different database connection via egw_db class.

I have a custom app that I want to serve remotely. Uses can edit and read
the entries. Could this work having the application run it’s own instance
of the egw_db class that would intanciate a remote instance of a database
served on another machine, perhaps via sockets?
There would not be much editing thus transactions likely not necessary. Any
thoughts on the issue would be grrreat.
