Hi!
Here at Coop CSUR (a small ISP cooperative in western Quebec) I’m trying
to adapt eGroupware for the management of our 1000+ members (at this moment
I’m working on adjusting the addressbook and the tracker to fulfill our
requirements).
Our management has stated that they’ll buy the EPL version of eGroupware
as soon as I’ve conclusively proved that the community version can be
adapted to our needs.
Right now, I’ve created 10 users (8 real users, 1 for training and 1 super-
user to manage eGroupware itself) and things look fine, except for one very
silly problem: screen size or, in other words, windows sizes.
The computers we use are all running under Linux (mostly Ubuntu, except for
a pair of Debians), some desktops with huge 16x9 displays, some portables
with smaller 16x9 displays. For instance, the portable I’m using to write
this mail right now has a 1280x800 display with a 15 inches diagonal.
The problem is that some windows in eGroupware are displayed with such a
scale that the bottom of the window falls below the bottom of the screen on
our portables, thus putting the eventual buttons at the bottom quite out of
reach.
For instance, I tried to write a news item and couldn’t see nor reach the
dialogFooterToolbar at the bottom of the window, because that bottom was
below the bottom of the screen - hence no way to click on the buttons in
that dialogFooterToolbar and thus no way to accept and store the news item.
Furthermore, the first row of dialogOperators was only partially visible
at the bottom ohf the screen while the second one was totally out of mouse
reach.
Hence my question: is there a way to globally reduce or scale down the size
of the windows in eGroupware ?
Yes, the same window is indeed perfectly usable on our desktop computers
using huge 1920x1080 displays, but that’s useless for mobile use (our usual
way to work, as we go to our members houses to analyze and correct the
problems they have with our network).
Also, I’d like to know if there is a way to reduce all the font sizes and
interline spacings used in eGroupware windows, as we would very much like
to be able to display our members list from the addressbook at one member
per line with as many lines as possible per screenful.
As one of our tech told me: “there’s a lot of useless blank space wasted
on all those screens, can’t you put more info in there to help us work ?”.
Thanks for any help.
Norman.
