Secure SMTP connection

Hi All

I was wondering if the Felamimail client can support secure login to SMTP. We are trying to add some security to our mail server, and would like to have SSL encryption with login to allow use of SMTP server. It already works with Thunderbird, and I have tried replicating those settings in EGW, but so far, I cannot get email to send.

Just use “ssl://” as hostname and the correct port.

I am having the same issue. Our mail server accept SMTP request as follows:

SMTP Server: mx1.mycompany.com
Port: 587
Security: STARTTLS
Authentication: Normal password
User Name: <user’s full email address>

Also I believe that Gmail use same kind of settings.

In eGroupware, I don’t know how to setup this for all the users.

If I remember it right, you have to use tls://hostname

Thank you Ralf.
One more question: Each user has an email address in his/her account,
which we are using the real email account name on our mail server. Also
user has his/her own password (which I don’t know). How can I setup
eGroupware to let them using the email app? I mean I can make a profile
and assign to all the users, and let the user input their own password,
is this possible?

The setup process provides the ability to set site-wide configuration
for the SMTP/IMAP servers and also some other bits:

./egroupware/setup/config.php

Assuming that the usernames are the same as your login names, then it
should be a breeze.

Of course you could also script to interact directly with the database.
Schema in:

./egroupware/emailadmin/setup/tables_current.inc.php

This allows a little customisation to the login for example
automatically adding a domain name to the username.

If there is a standard rule for converting real names to user names,
then I guess a bit scripting should do what you need.

I think that there may be the ability to carry out configuration via the
’remote administration instances’, but I haven’t quite worked out how
that works yet.

Unfortunately, user will need to enter their own password under the
’Manage eMail Accounts and Identities’.
