Select widget options set by ajax

Hi,

I remember the issue of having a select box, for which options are set up by
an ajax call, has already been discussed, but I cannot find the thread in
the archives.

Basically my script call ajax to set the options for a select box, but when
I submit it etemplate does not recognise the options which have been set
dynamically. I believe there is a need to use a callback so that the options
are added to the list of acceptable values, is there already some code doing
so?

I strugled a couple of nights with this issue. Although it has been a while and is not fresh in my mind anymore I will try to help.

I was having the same troubles. I never did create the interface ralf suggested becasue I switch to nathan greys select box widget which I think for the most part would make populating a select box any otherway obsolete. I mean that nathans widget is pretty dynamic and probably more user friendly. They just patched it for IE too. Basically IE was having some problems with the comments in the widget. I ment to post on it but I got behind.

Thanks. There are still cases in which an ajax-filled select widget seems
appropriate, for instance when there are only a limited amount of choice
(less than 5 options)

Yep ur right. I am always thinking in the context of my own work. Although, the results can be limited to anything you want as well. All the ajax and js is done for you . You just need to create the calling function. However, if the user were unaware of the initial search value then an regular select box would be appropriate.
