SMTP Troubleshooting

I am experiencing problems sending mail using SMTP. I have seen a number of posts from people with similar problems, but I don’t see a clear resolution.

Whenever I try to send an email I receive the following error message:
SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

I have validated that I have the appropriate SMTP host and port numbers and I believe that I am using the correct user and password for both the configuration and the emailadmin parts of the site.

Can anyone provide any help troubleshooting this problem?

Can you telnet to that host/port?

I’ve the same smtp problem with gmail Scott.

tried all the settings which I think are right…

I can telnet in on the port

markp@markp-study-home:~$ telnet smtp.gmail.com 465
Trying 72.14.221.109…
Connected to gmail-smtp-msa.l.google.com.
Escape character is ‘^]’.

Any thoughts appreciated

I get the same issue, can’t manage to find out why this error occurs.
Can’t get more detailed message.

I configured a LDAP authentication, I ask myself if it is linked…

Can someone help ?

Greeting all,

I am receiving the same issue on a 1and1 Linux shared hosted server. I would like to share that I was also receiving this error with vTigerCRM and there was a solution to this; Link (http://forum.vtiger.com/viewtopic.php?t=23824&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30). My question to the developers/gurus out there, is eGroupWare coded the same way? Can we modify a segment of code to use sendmail or phpMail?

Hi! I have the same problem that James. I have eGroupWare Version 1.6.001 installed in my server, and I have been configured an account in the emailAdmin app as I show you:

Global:

marked the three ‘Global options’ checkboxes
profile access rights: Any app, any group, any user
default mail domain: my_domain
SMTP:
Standard SMTP server
domain of my SMTP server: my_mailserver_domain
SMTP port: 25
Checked: Use STMP auth (I try with this option unchecked too)
Send using this eMail-Address: mail_username@my_mailserver_domain

I also configured the IMAP tab with options similars to the SMTP tab, but works fine.

I’m sorry for the lenght of this post, but I think that this data will help you to help me

You guys get it resolved? I got the exact same issue. IMAP works fine, but SMTP I just did a fresh install to 1.6.003 and SMTP worked fin in the previous version. Host is 1and1 Linux shared, I’ve configued a million email accounts not sure what I’m not clicking this go around. Any help appreciated.
