Hi. I’ve been given the task to test remote sync for tasks, events and
contacts with evolution. In fact, evolution had to communicate with other
software (sugar crm), but nowadays I haven’t found an updated connector, so
meanwhile, in order to test both egw and evolution sync capabilities (the sync
page says that more work is needed) I have performed some tests, with the
following environment and results:
The only way I’ve found for writing (using “on the web” works mostly ok, but
the editing feature of anything is disabled) is by using the multisync
software on the client side with the multisync evolution connector, and use
syncml in egroupware side. Apart from some dirty workaround on the
intermediate multisync software on the client side, I’ve been unable to sync
calendar events neither way. Contacts and tasks mostly worked, but with some
problems. The main problem is that using syncml, I get duplicates in contacts
and tasks, and I think evolution is generating those dupes (not sure, I’d like
confirmation).
Also, to widen the tests, I wanted to try another client (preferibly by
syncml, but it hasn’t been possible), and I tried kontact (supposedly ok
according to the sync page), that uses xml-rpc. Reading worked straigth
forward because there’s an egroupware option when adding a new resource, so
setting the xmlrpc.php url did the work. Adding and deleting an event worked
ok. But when I tried with contacts, it was worse every time. At first,
existing contacts were read ok. Then, I tried the whole team to play together
(evo - egw - kontact) and after some sync, contacts in kontact got broken,
since I wasn’t able nor to read nor write any contact. I’ve discovered that
kontact was supplying an empty user and password, regardless I even forced to
be asked both parameters.
I forgot that these test were with egw 1.2.102. I did want to try with devel
branch (it’s not a production environment yet) but the addressbook there is
currently broken (and that would fill some requests, too), so I report this
here, too.
I have to leave, but I hope it’s enough.
Regards.
Using Tomcat but need to do more? Need to support web services, security?
