SyncML Egroupware 1.6 - set mbstring.func_overload to 0 for rpc.php

Hi,

Have recently upgraded to Egroupware 1.6. The upgrade seemed to break the SyncML support although on investigation of the logs is found:

[Wed May 13 10:48:44 2009] [error] [client 192.168.2.10] You need to

set mbstring.func_overload to 0 for rpc.php.

However, I had configured this in my virtual host configuration prior to upgrading to 1.6 and it worked fine:

<Location /egroupware/rpc.php>
php_value mbstring.func_overload 0
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
AddHandler php5-script .php
Action php5-script /cgi-bin/php5

I also noticed that a .htaccess file has been added in 1.6 - so I set mbstring.func_overload to 0 in that file also.

With both I am still getting the error in the log and no SyncML.

Is there somewhere else this should be configured in egroupware 1.6?

using the latest funambol client 7.2.x, i couldn’t get anything to work
reliably with the default egw setup.

i now have my blackberries syncing with no problems at all with contacts in

The problem I am facing is more to do with configuring the mbstring.func_overload value for php on our virtual host.

Did you have any difficulty setting that?

i have been using egw 1.4 and 1.6 for about 2 years without that setting at
all (or with it specified as “0”) as it screws up other services like Cacti.

PHP says that the mbstring func overload is not something that can be reliably
set on a directory at this point.

in fedora, it appears to affect whichever httpd process it was started on
until that process dies.

i have not had issues to date, but i also don’t have any users with “special
characters” in their names, etc.

I have been trying for a long time to get the Funambol plugin for
Thunderbird to work correctly with no luck. I tried the above patches
and it works flawlessly now!! I did have to deviate from this patch:

The part “map_expired = 1::boolean” was still throwing database errors
in Postgres claiming it couldn’t convert an integer into a boolean. I
changed it to “map_expired = true” and everything seems to be working
great now. This fixed the two issues I was having where it would keep
duplicating contacts in EGW whenever a sync would occur and adding
contacts in Thunderbird would not push the email address into EGW.

Do you use syncml though? As the syncml script checks to see if the value is set - I don’t think it works without is being set to 0.

i do use syncml. what i mean is that i have it set to “0” (the default) for
the entire server, meaning, i never set it to 7 anywhere, or i just leave it
undefined.

even though i’ve chosen utf-8 as my charset, everything works ok. but like i
said, i don’t have anyone with extended characters anywhere.

your probably right that i should change it to “true”. in my db, the
map_expired column is set to be of type boolean, so i needed explicit type
casts with postgresql 8.3.
