Well, I have my configuration set so that egroupware is located on the
root domain (ie http://server/ instead of http://server/egroupware/). So
at first in the apache config file I changed the “php_admin_value
mbstring.func_overload” line under the “Directory
/usr/share/egroupware/” section from 7 to 0, and that worked and didn’t
seem to break anything. But then I realized that I needed to change
"Location /egroupware/rpc.php" to “Location /rpc.php”, and then I set
the “php_admin_value” value in the other section back to 7 because it
made me nervous. Then I didn’t get the connection error, and started
getting the invalid password error.
However, I am happy to report that I just got it working completely.
After much googling I came read that you need to enable the SyncML
module for the Default group in the egroupware admin. That little nugget
wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the documentation. So with that last change
it is now it’s working great.

Hello James,
I was not sufficiantly motivated to get the syncml working and stopped
at the first error you reported.
Would you please describe what stick you used and where you whacked
your apache configuration?
Thanks
Sorry, apparently I hadn’t whacked my apache configuration sufficiently
hard with a stick, and once I stopped getting that error. Now the sync
is failing due to an invalid username or password, even though I can log
into egroupware just fine. I can see in the apache access log that
rpc.php is being called and nothing shows up in the apache error log. Is
there something I can do or look at to get more information in order to
track down what the issue is?
James
Hello,
I am trying to get SyncML working with my Symbian Series 60 Nokia phone.
When I go to https://myserver/rpc.php I get:
You need to set mbstring.func_overload to 0 for rpc.php.
You should access this URL only with a SyncML enabled device.
I can’t figure out how to do as it asks. I have tried editing the apache
config file and the php5 config file and it doesn’t seem to make a
difference. When I try to connect with the phone it says that the server
is not responding. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
