Syncml with SE phone does not work after upgrading to 1.6

Hi,

after upgrading to 1.6 syncing my Sony Ericsson phone (W760i) towards EGroupware by Syncml does not work any more. In 1.4 it worked quite perfectly. I have installed the actual 1.6-snapshot.

The phone always says something like “session failed, bad username or password”, even though authentication success is reported in the access protocol and syncml log. However, the log has also entries like “Authentication not yet possible”, but that seems to be normal ?! I have played with various settings in EGroupware, but had no success. Even the eGroupWare SyncML Extensions (http://k.noc.de) did not work.

Syncml messages with sync data (e.g. tasks) are stored in /tmp/sync, so there is a sync in progress. But at the end it seems, that EGroupware sends a “bad message” to the phone (or too many auth errors ?)

A similar problem was reported here.

Any investigations possible ?

You’re getting a lot further than me. If I try to use SyncML from a SE W910i
phone I find the following error in the logfile

I’d love to work on it, but have to tackle this one first.
Have you had this error as well? if so, how did you fix it.

Your problem is most probably related to SyncML version 1.2. EGroupware can’t handle SyncML 1.2 as far as I known (work on supporting 1.2 seems to be pending since a couple of months). You should try to setup SyncML 1.1 in your phone if possible, it should be possible with the original SE firmware. My SE is Vodafone-branded and therefore only SyncML 1.1 capable, what is good for EGroupware.

Did your W910 work with EGroupware 1.4 before ?

My problem is clearly related to code changes in EGroupware 1.6. I would appreciate if the Egroupware team could work on it, since SyncML is quite important. And SE phones are normally quite good in supporting SyncML.

Hi,

I had a quick look on you logs. EGW is complaining about the missing authentication all the time. Are you sure that you have configured your mobile with your credentials properly? You should also use my latest patch and try again.

I am sure that my credentials were okay, which worked with EGW 1.4 before and working within the EGW 1.6 GUI. Checked and re-entered them multiple times. And as I said, some SyncML messages are written to the debug dir /tmp/syncml.

I have also tested your patch (2009-02-17), but had some different problems. I was also not able to sync at all. I will try your newest version as soon as possible and report the results here. Maybe we can tune your code a bit more, if it still does not work with my SE phone

I have installed now your patch from 2009-03-04. But the sync does not work. I have tested syncing tasks, notes and calendar (each separately). The phone sends its entries, which seems to work, but after the server sends the infolog entries to the phone, the phone stopps syncing with the (german) message:

So, there seems something wrong with the server messages.
jlehrke, I will send you a personal info with some logs and wbxml files for further analysis.

jlehrke has improved his patch, see http://k.noc.de. Now syncing notes, tasks and calendar entries with my SE W760i works. Addressbook should also work, but haven’t that tested, since I don’t sync my addressbook.

So far there are still some issues with big-size entries (which are cut during sync or which cause the sync to stop) and with deleting entries on server site not beeing synced to the phone. But great progress has been made. So, all other SE fans here should give it a try !
