Thunderbird 2.0 + eGroupware 1.4 + iCalSrv

Hi folks,

first, I have installed eGroupware 1.4 on my Debian web server. Is is working fine! After checking and using the installation, I have downloaded the icalsrv extension and installed it in eGroupware…

Unfortunately, I was not able to get it running with my Thunderbird + Lighting plugin…

Then, I have tried Mulberry email client - and here I got a helpful error message … Mulberry was complaining about a not enabled icalsrv???

I have checked my setup und alll applications have been enabled?

So, I have had a look on the icalsrv.php … and commented out the following block at line 118:

if(!@isset($GLOBALS[‘egw_info’][‘user’][‘apps’][‘icalsrv’]))
{
fail_exit(‘IcalSRV not enabled’,‘403’);
}


After that modification, the mulberry client was able to download the calendar and to display it!

So, I tried Thunderbird again - and now, I got another error message:

CAL_UTF8_DECODING_FAILED

So, I dont know what to do next? Do anyone out there have an idea, how to syncronize the Thunderbird calendar with eGroupware…

Please let me add, that I have tried the mozilla plugin for funambol … but it was not working, also … it crashed the Thunderbird…

That’s a wrong assumption on your side. Without that, anyone in your
installation could download (and use) the remote calendar. This change
was done some months ago. The previous icalsrv.php didn’t prevent this,
and I consider that a big bug. If you wonder how to manage this, just
enable icalsrv for the users you want to be able to use it, just like
any other app.

So, I tried Thunderbird again - and now, I got another error message:

So, I dont know what to do next? Do anyone out there have an idea, how to
syncronize the Thunderbird calendar with eGroupware…

It works fine for me, and I/we tested before committing the changes. The
ical standards specify to use utf-8 for ical data. Check your
installation settings.

Hi,

I can not find that message (CAL_UTF8_DECODING_FAILED) in our sources.

Is your eGW installation utf-8 or iso-8859-1? I’m not sure if the
icalserver correctly encodes all content in utf-8.

The only codepage setting I have found so far is in the setup page - the system font. I use the standard setting here: iso-8859-1’

Yes, that’s the explanation I expected

You have two options: fully switch to utf-8 (as explained in

For me, the full switch to UTF-8 is working. Now I can see my calendar in Thunderbird, Thanks!

Unfortunatly, I was too optimistic

Now, the calendar sync in Thunderbird is working - but the syncml of my Nokia E70 in NOT longer working after the change to UTF-8?

Is there a dependency of syncml to a non UTF-8 charset?

I have enabled the logging of the syncml and got the following information:

there’s “workaround”, you need to switch mbstring.func_overload off for
the rpc.php url, see http://www.egroupware.org/sync
