Timesheet Export to CSV Garbled

When I export a timesheet to Excel, the export is using a semi-colon as a delimiter, and I can’t find a place to change it. This is what the Excel sheet looks like:

That problem bugs me all over the shop. I didn’t have time to go hunting for it so simply opened up the output file in Open Office which easily allowed me to use a semicolon as a delimiter. Then you can save it as an .xls (if you so need) http://www.openoffice.org/ (free/OS for Windows too)

that would work if it was just me using it, but I can’t ask 80 people to install Open Office and do a conversion like that. Especially the VPs, who would complain.

Hi,

in excel 2003 for example you have in the menu “Data” -> “Text in columns”.
Mark the column where all data is in and choose “Text in columns”, now you can select the appropriate separator - maybe your 80 colleagues can handle this ;-).

That was one solution that I looked at, but it doesn’t format the data correctly. It’s also not pulling the field names from the database, like “Time In”, “Time Out”, “User Name” … like this aspect of Groupware is half finished.

I don’t have a problem tracking down and fixing what I find, I just hoped someone had actually USED the Timesheet part of Groupware and had a fix…

Using the EGW 1.8 or EPL i suggest to use the import/export-modul this
allows you choose the delimiter and many more features

Well switching 80 users to a free and fully featured office suite that’s compatible with MS Office will surely save your IT budget a lot of money and earn you some serious “brownie points” with the VPs

I guess you’ll have to use the import/export unless you want to hack a script together to get your data straight out the database and in to Excel format, bypassing awful CSVs entirely.

You could also use the reporting system to generate Excel files directly if you create a custom report for it, it shouldn’t be too difficult as the framework is already in place and quite simple to follow.

Good luck whichever method you choose!

When trying to use import/export I get this:

And I am not able to edit any options. This is in IE, in Firefox it doesn’t work either.

I am at a loss as to where to even start trying to fix this… does it actually work for anyone? I have even started completely over with a new install of the software and recreating the database from scratch with no luck…

Hi Jeff,

you can create and difine the profile in admin and thatn run it with all
items or just the selected ones

That made absolutely no difference at all. The admin account I created and the admin group I created has everything checked. Why is it so hard to get this to work? All I want is for the CSV sheets to use a comma (,) instead of a semicolon (

I guess your only option is to hack the source it would seem. I have to say it is odd a semicolon was chosen rather than a comma. It’s called Comma-Separated-Values for a reason lol

I had a similar problem as you. I’m running 1.8.0

I fully agree that it makes absolutely no sense that egw uses semicolons as delimiters in Comma Separated Files. An explanation would be helpful from the team. Anyway, here’s a very brief snippet from my personal installation changelog:

etemplate/inc/class.nextmatch_widget.inc.php
line 996:
static public function csv_export(&$value,$separator=’,’)

Do a search for ‘;’ and you’ll find a bunch. This one on my line 996 is in the csv_export function, which is called when I press the save icon in an etemplate table. You can search for ‘;’ in other files too if your export is coming some other way.
