Hi,
Hello folks,
I’m new to the organization I’m at and have discovered they have not
upgraded eGroupWare past 1.2. Our host just dropped support for php 5.2 and
is causing a lot of problems. I need to upgrade. Do I need to step the
upgrade up? Or can I just straight to 1.8 or beyond?
In principle you can upgrade in one go right to current 14.1 (1.8 is
still downloadable, but get’s no more maintenance).
It’s just that these updates are not as tested as updates to next
version. That sad, I would just give a straight update a try, before
trying anything else.
Please keep in mind that 1.4 -> 1.6 Update requires files to be present,
as it renames them and not just the database.
That means if you update in place (same host), you need to backup
database AND files. Files are stored by default in /var/lib/egroupware
but that can be changed in Setup to an arbitrary path outside the
docroot. Our own backup tool in 1.2 does NOT backup files!
If you are looking for a convenient ant easy solution, come into our
hosting and let us deal with your update. That way you also support the
continued development of EGroupware.
