Upgrading from 1.8 to current version

I have a system running 1.8 and want to move it to a new system (Centos) with the latest version. How would you recommend updating the system?

Updating from 1.8 is a bit tricky, you have to do it in the following steps:

• 1.8 -> 14.3
• 14.3 -> 16.1
• 16.1 -> 17.1

AND you have to install the egroupware-epl-compat package or egroupware-epl-contrib archive containing the old phpgwapi, which is required for that update. You might need to install some more deprecated apps, if you are using them (SiteMgr, KnowlegeBase, …).
The old package are still on download.opensuse.org, but you need to pin the installation to a certain version.
