Hello All
I would like to install egroupware using Postgresql 9.2. However, I cannot
find consistency in success of this within the forums and on google. When
I tried, I received a page of errors stating ‘this is not ready yet’ and
similar, but when I started egroupware and added data to many portions, it
seemed to work fine.
So my question is:
Can I successfully use postgresql 9.2 with egroupware and expect stable
results, and,
is there any specific install steps needed to have it install and run
correctly?
Thanks for the input!
I have been using EGroupware with PostgreSQL for a few years now, so I
wouldn’t be able to comment on the install portion, since I’ve been upgrading
all along.
I can say that while PostgreSQL support is secondary to MySQL in upstream
development, the developers are extremely responsive to any issue reports or
activity on the egroupware-developers list and they do maintain PostgreSQL
test systems.
Ensure that prior to any upgrades you do, run
“pg_dump -U postgres -Fc egroupware > egroupware.dump”
in case you need to roll back your whole egroupware database. I have not
found the internal EGroupware backup and restore tools to be reliable with
PostgreSQL.
I have been running EGroupware from SVN trunk for over a year so I can catch
and report PostgreSQL issues early. What I’ve done is to do a git-svn-clone
of the whole upstream Egroupware trunk, create my own branch so I can keep the
two separate, then review and merge changes from master to my branch. Git
makes it a whole lot easier to quickly roll back a change or two. If wish
upstream would make the move to Git, but I don’t think that’s likely.
It would be helpful to have another PostgreSQL user out there testing
Egroupware. You should create a test system and try the install. Report any
issues to the egroupware-developers list and they are likey to get resolved
quicky–then after the installation issues are solved, if any, you could move
into production. I find the production side, even with trunk is very stable,
if you keep a close eye on what you pull in to your “live” branch.
Of, note, I’m still running Fedora 17 on my DB server so I have
postgresql-9.1.8-1.
Good luck. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
