When I create one (using Phamm), there’s just a seperate DN (“mail=…”,
the eGW DN is “uid=…”).
You can either create a new imap and smtp plugin for emailadmin (easy to
write but hard to integrate in emailadmin) or use cyrus, postfix & sasl
which works very well with the existing EGroupware code base.

In setup I configured mail login to contain the domain name.
The server is a standard Ubuntu 8.04 (LTS), eGW is v1.6.
What am I missing?
