WebDAV - installation all awry

I’m playing with icalsrv and thus webDAV (groupDav) should be there too.

In the documentation it says the URL is:-

https://example.org/egroupware/icalsrv/groupdav.php/addressbook/

but on my system it’s:-

http://example.org/egroupware/groupdav.php/addressbook/

… and when I go there I get a permission error:-

Permission denied!

You've tried to open the eGroupWare application: groupdav, but you
have no permission to access this application.

This icalsrv installation in egroupWare is very confusing and messy!
Is there nowhere that documents the current/latest version and how to
install it? For all I know it may be installed by default but nothing
gives me a clue how to find out.

In the egroupWare setup I have added icalsrv and it says it’s
installed OK but that’s about the only positive thing I’ve got so far.
I get the above problems with groupdav and when I go to:-

http://example.org/egroupware/icalsrv/icalsrv.php/list.html/

I just get a blank page.

Do I have to do something to actually export calendars etc. to .ics
files? If so where does it tell me how to do that?

In 1.6, you have to use the url you have (groupdav.php in the eGW root)
AND groupdav is an own application, for which you have to give the user
rights, to be able to use it.

The iCalServer stuff (icalsrv directory) is depricated and there a now
fixed problem in 1.6pre1, causing wrong url’s in list.html.

managed to work out where this would be set up. So - where does one
set up user rights in eGroupware?

Ah, it’s OK, I’ve found it. You have to go to “Edit” the user and
then you can give the user permission to do things.

iCalServer is depricated as ical files have a lot of problems in a
multiuser enviroment. GroupDAV or CalDAV uses iCal’s too, it does NOT
stores the whole calendar in one file, but uses single WebDAV resources
/ files for each event. That works much better in a multiuser
environment. So far all major OS Pim applications support either
GroupDAV or CalDAV. There are even projects implementing CalDAV for Outlook.

It’s the only possibility for the application I want to try out (the
reminderFox addon for Firefox).

Just use Lightning or Sunbird instead of this ReminderFox thing.
Lightning supports CalDAV.

Or can I use groupdav to share the .ics files?

yeap, but I’m not sure icalsrv is in the snapshot, as it’s depricated.
You might need to use svn.

That really doesn’t work for me, I’m using ReminderFox because it’s
the only app[let] that I have found so far that displays the ‘next
thing I need to do’ in a status display that’s always in front of me.

I don’t/can’t open an application especially to see whether I ought to
do (for example) a tax return in seven days time. I want a little
note somewhere on my screen where I will always see it that says “Tax
return due, 30th Sept”. ReminderFox does exactly that for me in the
Firefox status bar and I always have Firefox up and running.

If you could offer me somethng similar within egroupWare then I’d go
for it like a flash as egroupWare offers just about everything else I
want (and more).

yeap, but I’m not sure icalsrv is in the snapshot, as it’s depricated.
You might need to use svn.

It does appear that it is as I seem to have it all working now!

By the way my clean install of the trunk-snapshot seems to have sorted
out my problems with Notifications too, that’s now working as it should.
It doesn’t do what I want though, as I say above I’d really like a
persistent indicator of upcoming events. An alarm that pops up
several days before I need to do my tax return (and then disappears)
is not much use for the way I work. I want the alarm to pop-up maybe
and then leave a ‘flag’ of some sort to remind me about it until I
actually clear the event.

This one really caught me off guard. I downloaded eGW 1.6 because it touted iCalServer as one of its features. I did not see anywhere in the docs that it was a lame duck application.

There are features that iCalServer provides that disappear when using WebDAV. I think that both should be supported. I implemented eGW because of iCal support. Perhaps this deprication is why I have been unable to access our public events from external apps (specifically Calendar Base in Typo3).

I have the same issue. We have many users with many events each that we want to feed to an Events Calendar page on our website. We want all public events from all users to appear on one calendar on the website. When trying access this with WebDAV, I get the error mentioned earlier in the post (You’ve tried to open the eGroupWare application: groupdav, but you have no permission to access this application.)

The user has access to the app, and was promted to login to DAV, but still gets the permission error.
