Wevdav file uploads corrupting files

Hi all

I have encountered a new error. I will try to test for repeatability later.

For quite a while now, I have been able to upload & share large numbers of files through EGW using webdav. Just today, I uploaded about 1.5GB of a user’s data to their folder, and the file names are good, the file sizes about correct, but when we try to open them, we get “unable to read files” type errors.

EXAMPLE, opening a pdf:
“File type unknown (application/octet-stream) is not supported”

we get similar errors with every file we try, whether *.doc, *.xls, or *.pdf

Now we are bridging between different OS’s when doing this -
Files were originally on a Mac OSX server, brought though my Ubuntu 10.04 desktop, and loaded up to the EGW server. No problems in the past, and file transfer did not generate error message. I also set the ACL’s to the account name & group.

I will try this again tonight when we have less network traffic, and post the result tomorrow.

Normally this is as a result of the downloading computer failing to
recognise the file
type (or losing the association between file type and application).

I’d therefore first try re-installing adobe acrobat reader on the PC
concerned:

http://get.adobe.com/reader/

(Don’t forget to untick the macafee bloat that they try and give you by
default).

That should correct any issues on the local PC relating to file
recognition of pdf files.

If that doesn’t work, then it may be time to think about file
corruption…but personally
I have a fair amount of faith in the file transfer process, as I’ve so
far transferred a few GB
as part of some performance tests for alternatives for a customer. If
the above works for pdfs
then you may need to manually force the PC to reassociate file types
with applications.

If that doesn’t work, then test on a couple of different PCs, in
particular try using 'open->open with’
to specify the correct application.
