Your Database is not working! after following instructions

Hello to much more experienced!

Although I did every step of following instructions, I get “Your Database is not working!” message.

Make sure that your database is created and the account permissions are set.

Instructions for creating the database in PostgreSQL:
Login as user postgres, eg. by using su as root
[root@server /root]# su - postgres
Create the empty database and grant user permissions -
[postgres@server /var/lib/pgsql]$ createuser --no-adduser --no-createdb -P egroupware
Enter password for new user:
[postgres@server /var/lib/pgsql]$ createdb --encoding=utf-8 --owner egroupware egroupware
to allow password authentification add the following line to your pg_hba.conf (above all others) AND restart postgres:

TYPE DATABASE USER CIDR-ADDRESS METHOD

host egroupware egroupware 127.0.0.1/32 password

Any ideas?

If you have no previous experience with Postgres, I can only recommend
to use MySQL.

Well, It’s apparently obvious I am poorly experienced :-[

However, I was told PostgreSQL is much more robust and better-performance DB. I prefer to spend some on it.

I you only could give me a hint at what chapter of official PostgreSQL documentation I should focus on. Or something like that. I don’t expect step-by-step guide.

can’t concur. mine runs on PGSQL, wasn’t too hard to setup. MySQL is
easier, but still

this sounds like authentication method BTW

I suggest subscribing to the PG admin ML

Of course, mysqld is running…

I have followed Quickinstall Guide and created database and set db user privileges. Then continued on egroupware/setup/index.php and got:

Your Database is not working!: Can’t connect to local MySQL server through socket ‘/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock’ (13)
Make sure that your database is created and the account permissions are set.

I should add I’m trying to work all above on CentOS 5.2

I’ve got an idea to look at /var/log/messages and found:
Sep 11 11:11:38 hostname setroubleshoot: SELinux is preventing httpd (httpd_t) “connectto” to /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock (unconfined_t). For complete SELinux messages. run sealert -l c86f76b8-fe63-4cc1-a3b4-ce156b3b7446

Either switch SELlinux off, or get a SELlinux specialist to configure it
correct. I have seen noone - so far - using it …

I switched SELINUX option in /etc/selinux/config to permissive (which should only throw warnings) and after reboot it started to work.

I’ve also found this:

Sep 8 10:06:15 aspwd181 setroubleshoot: SELinux is preventing the http daemon from connecting to a database. For complete SELinux messages. run sealert -l d5a4d363-6e76-486c-aae2-6bf3d897f78a

It seems that it was the same SELinux problem with PostgreSQL as well.

I have the same problem on CenOS 5 with MySQL (mysql-5.1.58-jason.1.x86_64) installed from eGroupware 1.8 repository. I have “Can’t connect to local MySQL server through socket ‘/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock’ (2)” error message in eGroupware domain setup (http://localhost/egroupware/setup/index.php). I have the same error when I try run command ‘mysql’. What causes this error? How to connect to MySQL and create database for eGroupware? Could you help me?

Hi.

If you cannot even run “mysql” from the terminal, then it has nothing to
do with egroupware but with your mysql server setup and you should get
that fixed first.
Get mysql server up and running, install phpmyadmin and then try again
with egroupware.
Extended help in setting up a mysql server are probably off topic here.
Try to consult the mysql website or your all-time friend google.

Presume you have the “server” installed and it is running and you have
checked the system logs for pointers?
Also presume you have checked whether the sock file is actually there
and accessible to the mysql daemon?
