Hi, Stefan,
Thank you for answering. Sorry for a slow response. I’ve been doing testing all morning.
I had been using SOGo for a different address book. Adding in the address to SOGo for the free/busy time
(https://{eGroupware_domain_name}/egroupware/calendar/freebusy.php/?user={EGroupware_username}) doesn’t seem to work. I added it via Thunderbird/AddressBook/File/New/Remote Address Book/ but when inviting users, Thunderbird contacts our email server rather than our eGroupware server. Maybe I’m doing something wrong? I’ve made my eGroupware free/busy time available to not logged in persons and after doing so I’ve tried inviting people to an event in Thunderbird with their eGroupware username or their email address. Neither shows the eGroupware free/busy time for invitees.
The bigger picture of what I’m trying to do is to see if we can keep using eGroupware for our calendar system. I’ve been asked to replace eGroupware. We need a calendaring system that integrates with Thunderbird, Outlook, and Android and iOS smartphones. I’d like to get eGroupware’s calendar working with those platforms: each person must be able to see the events they are invited to and free/busy time of others by querying the server.
I’d really like to get eGroupware accepted as the new candidate, but I can’t if it won’t meet the criteria. The problems I’ve found so far with Thunderbird testing:
- cannot see free/busy time for others (this current question)
- SOGo Connector Add-On does not work with Thunderbird 60 (known issue that will hopefully be resolved with Thunderbird 60.1: see https://sogo.nu/bugs/view.php?id=4522) so I have tested using version 52.9.1
- All eGroupware events disappear after a few hours of being connected. Workaround: edit the calendar setting (e.g. toggle offline support)
- For recurring events, if an exception is made to delete the event from one day, Thunderbird still shows it even though it’s not showing in eGroupware or on mobile calendars
- Thunderbird shows you have invitations to accept (in its status bar), but clicking on the Invitations link shows empty notifications (no text or colour), so you can’t handle them. Deleting your eGroupware calendar solves the phantom invitation problem (the invitations go away), but that’s not what we want to do.
I’m not asking for resolution or answers to these problems in this message. I’m only asking for help with the free/busy time. I only mention the other problems and the bigger picture to see if I should pursue bug hunting or whether I should give up on eGroupware. (I think it’s obvious I don’t want to give up on eGroupware.)
Thanks,
Paul
